What is a ruana?

I have noticed a growing popularity of ruana's as I have been ordering for our store but what exactly is a ruana and what makes it different from a poncho or sweater?

A ruana is basically a very soft and warm rectangular or square blanket with an opening in the center for the head to go through with a slit down the front to the hem. A ruana may or may not come with a hood to cover the head.

These are excellent choices of clothing to wear in cold temperatures like at a football game or over a winter jacket but are still stylish enough to wear inside your home or out shopping.

Our ruana featured below is reversible (black and white) and a must have for our cold New York winters. My take on ruana's: I'm in love with how easy it is to put on to complete a stylish look as well as being warmer and cozier on these colder days.
